How To Tell The Difference

Two Consultants Can Say The Same Thing. Only One Can Prove It.

Every AS9100 consultant in India will tell you they can get you certified. Before you sign anything with anyone, rather than just taking their word for it, ask them to actually show you — not just tell you.

What You'll Hear

"We'll get you AS9100 certified."

What To Check

Certification and OEM approval are essentially two different tests. Many suppliers get certified and still cannot get onto an approved-vendor list — so rather than just noting which standard number is on the certificate, ask exactly what closes that specific gap.

What You'll Hear

"Our templates cover every clause."

What To Check

Templates will pass a document review. But an OEM auditor walks the floor and asks an operator what happens when a tool goes out of calibration — and that is precisely where template-only systems fail, every single time.

What You'll Hear

"20 years of experience."

What To Check

Ask specifically which OEM, which certification scope, which sites, and which year. Suriyavaan's answer: Boeing India, AS9100D, 9 sites, 5,000+ engineers, IAQG-authenticated since 2020 — all verifiable on LinkedIn even before you pick up the phone.

What You'll Hear

"We can start next week."

What To Check

A genuine gap diagnosis begins with an on-site walk, rather than just a signature on a contract. Anyone quoting a fixed price before actually seeing your floor is essentially pricing a guess, not a diagnosis.

The Practice
"Certification is a byproduct. A supplier-grade quality system is the product."

Most suppliers treat certification as essentially a documentation project and delegate it to just one engineer. Then the OEM auditor walks the floor and asks an operator what happens when a tool goes out of calibration — and the whole paper castle collapses.

The certificate only proves that you passed one audit on one day. OEM approval, on the other hand, tests whether the system actually survives a rush order and a difficult Monday morning. I redesign the operating system of your quality function so that certification simply falls out of it as a natural result — and keeps passing, through growth and change.

Fit Check

This is for you if…

01You're an aerospace, defence or precision-manufacturing supplier in India, Turkey, the Middle East, Japan or Southeast Asia — typically 30 to 500 people.
02You have ISO 9001 and want AS9100D, AS9110C or AS9120B — or you're already certified and still can't get OEM approval.
03Your certificate is suspended, withdrawn, or at risk after audit findings.
04Customers are asking harder questions: FAI, configuration control, counterfeit parts, Clause 8.4.
05Your documentation is fine, but your processes aren't audit-resilient on the shop floor.
06You want a sequenced route to approval — not templates, not a generic training program.
If two or more of these apply to you, your issue is not really documentation — it is system readiness.
Problems We Fix

The patterns behind most stalled OEM approvals.

Every one of these is fixable in a matter of months, not years.

Approval Risk

Blocked from OEM approval

You are certified — or nearly there — but still cannot get onto the approved-vendor list. The gap is usually systemic in nature, rather than just clerical.

Certificate Risk

Certificate suspended or withdrawn

A missed surveillance audit or a systemic finding has put your certification status at risk. This is recoverable — but both the clock and OEM confidence matter here.

Audit Risk

Findings that keep coming back

The same non-conformances keep recurring under different auditors. When a problem survives different people looking at it, the problem is essentially the system.

Supply Chain Risk

Weak supplier & purchasing control

Clause 8.4, counterfeit-parts traceability, and First Article Inspection are common weak points for Tier-2 suppliers preparing for OEM scrutiny.

System Risk

A paper system, not a shop-floor one

The manual looks beautiful, but the shop floor tells a different story. OEM auditors test the floor, rather than just the binder.

Engineering Risk

Software & embedded quality gaps

Configuration, requirements, and process maturity for software-driven products — an area where most aerospace consultants simply cannot help.

Service Architecture

One master practice. Six routes in.

Suriyavaan is an aerospace advisory practice built on four pillars — AS9100D/AS91XX quality management deployment, regulatory compliance and audit readiness, software and systems assurance, and supplier capability development. Rather than starting with the standard, we start with the actual problem: every route builds the system, trains the process owners, closes the risks, and sustains performance well after certification.

Get OEM-Approved

AS9100D / AS91XX quality management systems deployment — for suppliers targeting AS9100D, AS9110C or AS9120B certification, or approval onto the Boeing, Airbus and Tier-1 approved-vendor lists.

Outcome A clear path to the Approved Vendor List.
  • Gap diagnosis against real OEM supplier-quality expectations — not just the clauses
  • Sequenced, dated readiness roadmap with named process owners
  • AS9145 APQP & PPAP for new part introduction
  • Clause 8.4 external-provider control & counterfeit-parts prevention
  • First Article Inspection and configuration control readiness
Regional Readiness Paths

Regional readiness paths for aerospace suppliers.

Each path is written specifically for the standards, buyer types and audit expectations that actually apply in that market. Engagements are delivered remotely from India, with on-site workshops by arrangement — listing a market here does not imply a local office, local regulatory expertise, or a local certification-body relationship.

Remote diagnostics are run across IST, GST, TRT, JST, ICT and SGT time zones. We are happy to work under NDA before reviewing audit reports, customer findings, supplier lists, engineering data, or OEM correspondence.
Comparison Matrix

Advisory partner, certification body, or template consultant?

Three very different things get called an "AS9100 consultant" in India. It is important to know which one you are actually buying.

Option A

Certification body

Audits you against the clauses on one day and issues the certificate. They cannot build your system for you, as that would be a conflict of interest — you still need to arrive already ready.

Option B

Template / documentation consultant

Sells you a manual and a folder of formats. The paperwork passes, but the floor walk fails. This is essentially how suppliers end up certified but never OEM-approved.

Suriyavaan

Auditor-practitioner advisory

Builds and defends the operating system that passes real OEM audits, and trains your people to run it themselves. You can keep your existing certification body — we work above that layer.

FAQ

Questions suppliers ask first.

What aerospace advisory services does Suriyavaan offer?

Suriyavaan provides aerospace advisory across four pillars: AS9100D/AS91XX quality management systems deployment (OEM approval and certificate recovery), regulatory compliance and audit readiness, software and systems assurance (CMMI, DO-178C, DO-254), and supplier capability and personnel certification — all delivered as one integrated practice for aerospace and defence MSME and mid-sized suppliers in India and selected international markets, including Turkey, the Middle East / GCC, Japan, Thailand and Southeast Asia.

What does this cost?

The diagnostic is free of charge. The Flight Plan Workshop is a fixed fee, quoted before you book. Advisory retainers are scoped only after the workshop — so you know your actual gaps, and the full cost, before committing to anything long-term. Engagements are sized for MSMEs, rather than for OEM-level budgets.

How long does AS9100 / OEM readiness take?

Typically 6–9 months from ISO 9001 to AS9100 audit-ready, depending on how closely your documented system matches shop-floor reality. Certificate recovery is usually faster than this. The route map gives you actual dates, rather than just vague phases.

How much of my team's time will this take?

Plan for a few hours per week per process owner, concentrated in short sprints — designed to work around production schedules, rather than against them. If a consultant tells you AS9100 needs no internal effort at all, they are essentially selling you a binder.

Is this only for large companies?

No — the practice is built specifically for MSME suppliers, typically 30–500 people. The approach scales down deliberately: fewer documents, clearer ownership, and systems sized to your actual operation.

Do you issue AS91XX certificates?

No — and that is deliberate. I am an independent advisor and auditor-practitioner across the AS91XX family (AS9100, AS9110, AS9120), rather than a certification body. I build the system that passes their audit. Many clients keep their existing certification body; I simply work above that layer.

Will you just give us templates?

No. Templates are precisely how suppliers end up with a beautiful manual and a failed floor walk. You get a system designed around your actual processes and people — which is the only kind that genuinely survives an OEM auditor.

Can you help if we only have ISO 9001 today?

Yes — that is in fact the most common starting point. I map the gap between your ISO 9001 system and what AS9100 and OEM supplier-quality teams actually expect, and then sequence the route accordingly.

Can you support a suspended or withdrawn certificate?

Yes. A suspension is usually a missed surveillance audit or one systemic gap — both are recoverable. The diagnostic identifies which one it is, and what reinstatement will actually take.

Do we need this before approaching OEMs?

Approaching an OEM before you are truly system-ready burns a first impression that you simply do not get back. The diagnostic tells you honestly whether to approach now, or fix things first.

Do you work with aerospace software and embedded engineering teams?

Yes. Alongside AS91XX, I also deploy CMMI ML3/ML5, RTCA DO-178C / DO-254 airborne software and hardware assurance, requirements and configuration management, and Agile-at-scale governance — a combination that few aerospace quality advisors offer.

Do you work only in India, or internationally?

Both. Suriyavaan is India-based, and India remains the home market and credibility base, with on-site workshops across the country. Internationally, Suriyavaan works from Turkey to Japan — Turkey, the Middle East and GCC, the Caucasus and Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and East Asia — through remote diagnostics, with on-site workshops by arrangement. Dedicated readiness paths are published for the markets where demand is strongest; the wider region is served on request.

What actually happens in the free diagnostic?

Fifteen minutes: where your quality system stands today, what may block OEM approval, and an honest read on whether I can genuinely help. No pitch involved. If I am not the right fit, you still leave with a useful next step.

How is this different from a certification body or training provider?

A certification body checks you against the clauses on one day. A training provider simply explains the clauses. I build and defend the operating system so you pass real OEM audits and keep passing — auditor-side thinking, combined with practitioner-side execution.

Is Suriyavaan only for Indian aerospace companies?

No. Suriyavaan is India-based and supports selected international aerospace, defence, MRO, distributor, software, and supplier-quality organisations remotely and by arrangement, including Turkey, the Middle East, Japan, Thailand, and Southeast Asia. India remains the home market and the credibility base for the practice.

Does Suriyavaan guarantee AS9100, AS9110, or AS9120 certification?

No. Suriyavaan provides readiness, advisory, and quality-system transformation support only. Certification decisions are made by accredited certification bodies. Suriyavaan deliberately does not audit for certification the very systems it helps build — that would be a conflict of interest.

Does Suriyavaan guarantee OEM supplier approval?

No. Suriyavaan helps prepare the quality system, evidence, process ownership, and audit readiness needed for customer or OEM review. The approval decision itself remains with the relevant customer or OEM.

What is the difference between AS9100 certification and OEM approval?

AS9100 certification confirms that a quality management system has been assessed against the standard by a certification body. OEM approval, on the other hand, usually requires additional customer-specific evidence, process maturity, supplier controls, FAI discipline, configuration management, corrective-action effectiveness, delivery performance, and technical confidence. A supplier can hold a perfectly valid certificate and still not be an approved source.

Which regions does Suriyavaan target internationally?

Suriyavaan targets selected opportunities in India, Turkey, the Middle East / GCC, Japan, Thailand, and Southeast Asia, with remote diagnostics and on-site workshops by arrangement. No foreign office is implied by this.

What is the best first step?

An International AS91XX Diagnostic or MRO Quality System Diagnostic, depending on whether the organisation is a manufacturer, MRO, distributor, software team, or supplier-quality function. It is free of charge, remote, and gives an honest read on fit before anyone commits to anything.

The Three Practices

One advisory, three aerospace quality standards.

Manufacturing, maintenance and distribution are audited against different standards by the same OEM supplier-quality teams. Please pick the one that actually matches what you do.

New: Market Entry Advisory

Not certified yet — not even in the sector yet? Start one step earlier.

Before AS9100D readiness even makes sense, MSMEs entering Aerospace & Defence face a 30–36 month cash-risk window between capital expenditure (capex) and the first actual OEM cash flow. Our Aerospace & Defence Entry Advisory stress-tests that window, validates real demand, and gives you a documented Go/No-Go — before you commit any capital.

The Practice Behind Every Engagement

Recurring findings recur because the structure produces them.

Four systems-led disciplines find and fix that structure — with AI-assisted analysis where it genuinely improves speed and discipline: mapping audit evidence, spotting process gaps, and structuring corrective-action follow-up.

Discipline 01Systems Thinking

Why your recurring findings keep recurring — and how to make them stop by fixing the structure itself, rather than blaming operators or tools.

Discipline 02System Dynamics Modelling

How delays, feedback and incentives drive quality behaviour over time — and where one small change can move the whole system.

Discipline 03Critical Thinking

Separate the certificate from the actual capability. Test every assumption that an auditor will test — before they do.

Discipline 04Design Thinking

Build the system around your people, culture and behaviour, so that quality survives real production, rather than just audit day.

These are the disciplines Simon taught as lead faculty for Systems Thinking & System Dynamics at Boeing's Technical Leadership Institute.

Already certified? Your constraint has moved.

If you already hold AS9100D, AS9110C or AS9120B, the question is no longer which certificate to get. The real issue is that the certificate documents one capability, while the rest of the business runs essentially on the memory of specific people — which works fine until growth turns that into the binding constraint. It shows up as repeat findings, slow onboarding, and decisions that stall simply waiting for one person.
